Microsoft's Strategic Changes in Technology and Business Practices to Expand Interoperability

On February 21, 2008 Microsoft announced a series of steps towards embracing a more open company.

You can read the whole announcement here: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2008/feb08/02-21ConCallTranscript.mspx

If they really do what they are saying then this will be the biggest game changer for the software industry since the launch of .Net platform by Microsoft.

Knowing microsoft, it will probably take them the next few years to even start with interoperability. The difference with todays standards is that are fast-changing ones (they are *supposed* to be like that in order to keep up with the ever changing pace of both technology and how it's driving business).

But for Microsoft, adapting itself to such a rapidly changing work will require changing it's very thinking.

Let's see how it goes, I am not exactly expecting to be surprised.
